Puma energy donates to BPS
10 Dec 2017
Botswana Police Service (BPS) Senior Assistant Commissioner and director of operations, Mr Pilane Sebigi has expressed gratitude for the donation of refreshments by Puma Energy.
Refreshments would be used by police officers during the festive holidays.
He said the donation was a gesture of goodwill from Puma Energy, and that it would be appreciated by police officers who would be on duty over the festive holidays to ensure public safety on roads instead of being with their families and loved ones.
Mr Sebigi noted that with Christmas around the corner, people tended to get overly excited and lose their sense of self-awareness and become less vigilant of their properties and surroundings.
“I would like to advise families to sit down with their children and teach them to be security-conscious at all times. This includes minimising buying expensive gadgets for kids such as cellphones, tablets and laptops as they attract criminals and expose them to possible attacks,” he said.
He further urged communities to become involved in crime prevention initiatives such as ‘ntebele ke go lebele’ and local cluster committees to ensure safety for their lives and belongings.
For his part, the managing director of Puma Energy, Mr Mahube Mpungwa said they donated to the BPS as a token of appreciation for the services they rendered to the nation.
He said as a good corporate neighbour, Puma Energy felt compelled to handover the refreshments to encourage members of the police service to continue with their outstanding service over the holidays.
“As a company, it is important that we work closely with our stakeholders to build a vibrant community, and we can do this not only by providing services but by also having an interaction with other members of the community which in this case is the police,” he said.
He noted that the initiative was the brain-child of staff members who came up with the idea to donate to the police, and that the company sourced P12 000 and purchased the refreshments.
“What drives us in a business is that we do not operate in a vacuum; our success is based on the grace of the community in which we operate.
That is why we always find opportunities to give back to the community through our corporate responsibility and also through events such as this one when we appreciate our key stakeholders,” he added. ENDS
