Maseko applaudes Mascom for patriotism

Mascom Wireless has been applauded for demonstrating a great sense of patriotism by donating a computer and a printer to Dikhukhung and Mmakgori primary schools.

Speaking at the hand over ceremony recently, Ministry of Basic Education, South Regional Director, Mr Acro Maseko said Mascom Wireless had provided internet connectivity to 16 schools in the region as part of the e-school connectivity.

He said the gadgets would assist them in enhancing academic performance and information management.

The ICT gadgets are becoming an integral part and plays a pivotal role in reaching the 21st century learner, he stated.
On another point, Mr Maseko urged teachers in the two primary schools to stop being techno phobic and use the gadgets to enhance teaching and learning.

When handing over the gadgets, Mascom communications and public relations manager, Ms Barbara Gotlop said it was their responsibility to raise awareness of the opportunities that the use of the internet and ICT can bring to Batswana.

“As a responsible corporate citizen, we are convinced that the increase in the use of ICT can transform the lives of ordinary people by bridging the rural/ urban digital divide,” she said.

On another note, Ms Gotlop stated that by handing over computers to both primary schools, they hoped the gadgets would go a long way in making a positive contribution to education of the children.

She also highlighted that they had already connected 466 out of 541 public schools around Botswana.

She revealed that over the past 18 years, Mascom had donated thousands of computers, printers and photocopying machines to schools around the country. ENDS
