09 Jul 2013
The Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Dr Gloria Somolekae has said it is not true that public officers were not paid for the public holiday that was set aside for elections in October 2009.
She said affected industrial class employees were paid double time for working on a holiday in addition to holiday pay in accordance with Regulations for Industrial Employees (RIE) 3.09 and 3.08 respectively.
Dr Somolekae said all public officers, who were on duty during the elections and were not entitled to overtime pay were granted two days off in lieu of overtime pay.
She further said all permanent and pensionable officers who were engaged during the elections were duly paid the election allowances paid at the time. The assistant minister was responding to a question from Francistown MP Wynter Mmolotsi who had asked why public officers were not paid for the public holiday that was set aside for elections in October 2009.
