06 Dec 2017
Kweneng District Commissioner, Dr Themba Mmusi has commended Moruakgomo Junior Secondary School teachers for fulfilling President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama 5 D’s.
The teachers, with the input of parents, students, individuals and community leaders made it possible by providing a modern furnished house worth P35 000 to a Molepolole resident, Mr Rabasimane Kgwete.
Speaking during the house handover, Dr Mmusi said teachers would not have managed alone. He said they exercised the D of democracy by consulting with students, parents and community leaders regarding the project they wished to undertake.
He said the other Ds of discipline, dignity, development and delivery were also integrated in the planning process of the project until its completion.
The district commissioner noted that when President Khama took over as President in 2008, one of his priority areas was to restore the dignity of the less privileged members of community through the housing appeal initiative.
Dr Mmusi said while the President made a call for all to assist, the response was overwhelming as the initiative currently boosts of 795 houses which has since been handed over.
For his part, Kgosi Kgari III described efforts of all who took part in realising the project as a lesson for others to emulate and help those in need.
He noted that helping others did not require monetary resources, but the skill, gift or talent that one had.
Drawing on what Kgosi Kgari III said, the school head, Ms Lenthaletse Galeitse said upon realising that their funds could only cover building materials, they requested for assistance in the form of labour from the prison’s department.
She said it was through the technical skill and know-how of the inmates who built the house for free.
She said the idea to build a house for Mr Kgwete was conceived in 2014 by the school’s football social club. She said the idea was later sold to the school so that students, parents and teachers could all take part in making the idea possible.
Ms Galeitse commended the Prisons department alongside individuals and companies which contributed to the project.
Mr Kgwete appreciated efforts of all those who played a part, saying they have restored his dignity.ENDS
