Performance recognition in workplace key CS
06 Dec 2017
Performance recognition in the workplace is critical as it motivates employees to go the extra mile in improving service delivery.
Maun Administrative Authority senior council secretary, Ms Mogomotsi Seemule said this during the staff awards ceremony, noting that world wide, performance recognition was scarce as some organisations do not see its importance.
She said recognition of employees was key to the success of an organisation as it motivated staff to improve performance. In addition, she said the effort would not only spur on recipients of awards, but would also challenge non-recipients to do more towards the attainment of a productive workforce.
Ms Seemule said award recipients showed that they had the ability and trust, adding that she believed they would do more to drive the council mandate.
“We have realised that recognition of employees should be our priority because it is a way of motivating our staff to be more innovative, as that is what the government encourages in the workplaces,” she added.
The senior assistant council secretary further revealed that the recipients tracked and cared about the success of the council hence they found it fit to say thank you to them.
The awards, she said, would make them to feel part of the system, to love their jobs and to make lasting performance in the institutions.
Employees were awarded performance awards in categories such as discipline, attitude towards work, supervisory abilities and many others.
Some councillors were also awarded for exercising intellectual leadership, guiding coherently, exercising knowledge through research, communicating well and acting actively and for giving feedback to the community.
Ms Seemule said although their efforts were good, they were narrowed by complaints and jealousy. She said they had an obligation to consider fairness, transparency and consistency in selecting recipients.
She explained that they designed a form which stipulated all the requirements for an employee to be selected for the awards.
For his part, assistant district commissioner, Mr Ramogaupi Gaborekwe commended the sub-district for rewarding excellence.
He said appreciation should be a norm in any organisation and congratulated the council for the ceremony,.
He said recognition encouraged hard work and called on employees to work hard and maintain a high work ethic if they wanted to remain at the top. BOPA
