The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development says it wishes to respond to Weekend Post article that appeared on the 2nd December, 2017 edition under the headline, “Tsogwane blocks Bayeyi chief coronation.”

In a press release, the ministry says contrary to reports that Mr Slumber Tsogwane, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development is blocking the coronation of Wayeyi chief, the ministry wishes to note that consultations are supposed to be ongoing between Wayeyi and Batawana Tribal Administration on the matter.

Furthermore,it says in a meeting presided by the minister in Maun  on August 31, 2017, both parties were encouraged to engage one another and Wayeyi advised to formally  request for the use of kgotla for the coronation.

Subsequently, it says a formal letter addressed to Wayeyi Chieftainship Council chairperson advanced Batawana Tribal Administration’s position on the use of the Gumare kgotla, advising the former to follow practice adopted during the installation of the previous Wayeyi chiefs.

“In the continuing spirit of dialogue and consultation, the ministry has encouraged Batawana and Wayeyi to come up with an amicable solution to the matter through further consultations and engagement,” says the release BOPA
