Lack of participation hinders potential

Assistant Minister of Basic Education, Moiseraele Goya has identified lack of participation in many sporting codes as a hindrance in potential.
Officiating at Botswana Primary Schools Sports Association(BOPSSA)annual general meeting in Gaborone recently, Goya pointed out that at recent Olympics, the country was not represented by many sporting codes noting that lack of involvement limited the country’s potential. Goya emphasised that achievements of athletes was no reason to rest on past attainments adding that the country was thirst for more medals.
He urged sport affiliates to explore and venture into new uncultivated codes in Botswana as well as work hard in perfecting performance in traditional sporting codes. Goya cited cricket as a code that was perceived to belong to whites but Botswana made history by joining the sport stating that results were already showing.
On other issues, Goya applauded BOPSSA for the good work done stating that the association was a platform that uproot talent at a maiden stage. He identified the association as a nursery of sport development in Botswana, offering a golden early opportunity to primary school students in showcasing talents.
The nation, he said was aimed at achieving global competitiveness in order to contest with the best.
He added that the goal appeared to be within reach as the world was noticing and feeling Botswana’s presence in international competitions.
Goya applauded BOPSSA for the move to working closely with Botswana Integrated Sports Association noting that it was a cultivated move.
The newly appointed patron of BOPSSA, Francisco Kgoboko said the call to serve in sport was because of the amount of commitment he had in ensuring sport excel in the country.
Kgoboko said to serve in the association was an opportunity to give back to the community as well as contributing oneness part.
He mentioned that the economy of the country was solely relying on depleting minerals adding that sport could be an immediate economy booster if given a priority.
Long and short terms goals, Kgoboko said were important in managing sport noting that with reserved time to evaluate strategies was key in uplifting sport. ENDS
