Botswana Squash Racket Association recently held a press conference to kick off the Broadband Botswana Internet (BBI) junior elite squash team sponsorship for their upcoming Singapore /Malaysia tour.
BBI expressed commitment to local sports by sponsoring the team’s playing and training kits which will be used by the girls at the upcoming International Squash events in Malaysia and Singapore from tomorrow to December 17.
When giving an overview of the partnership sales and marketing manager at BBI Ms Bathusi Beleme said Internet connectivity could go a long way in assisting with the growth of sports in Botswana.
She said Internet allowe people the chance to enjoy and appreciate sports internationally.
“Networking with other associations internationally is made even easier and allows athletes to transcend otherwise challenging geographic boundaries,” she said.
Beleme said as athletes traveled the globe they met and built relationships with people they find there, and due to limited communication mediums these relationships would die.
She further said BBI board and management were strong advocators for overall health and wellness and were always eager to support initiatives that went a long way in getting more youth away from the streets into more productive activities.
“This is why we believe in supporting causes such as these that allow these budding athletes to continue to push themselves and pursue their dreams. I am personally proud to see this young team go out into the world and fly the Botswana flag high,” she said.
Koketso Ntshebe, team Botswana to Asia coach and development manager said his team was ready to compete and bring home medals.
“We started preparing the girls team in 2015 and today we are very proud to be sending this team of four girls to represent our country in Asia. In Africa we are giants in squash ,” he said.
For her part IWG secretary general Game Mothibi said parental involvement in sport was important as it helped sport grow.
She called upon the association to ensure the welfare of players topedthe list in everything they did.
“More often than not sporting codes look at the medal part of sports and neglect the welfare of players. We need to take care of our athletes more especially the girl child,” she said. BOPA
