The national Under 19 girls’ cricket team is on camp to prepare for the August four nations tournament.
Botswana Cricket Association (BCA), over the weekend, hosted a T20 cricket tournament. Players were divided into three teams, Northern Deserts, Southern Rock and Central Deltas and national team players were spread amongst them for balance and competitiveness.
Shameelah Mosweu was one the players that caught the eyes of cricket lovers with her batting supremacy as she made 73 runs not out. Mosweu, who said she started playing cricket at a very young age of seven, showed her batting skills as Central Deltas literally ran over Northern Deserts.
She teamed up with Thandiwe Legabile and they both gave bowler Mimmie Ramafifi a headache as they easily dealt with her balls. Northern Deserts’ fielders eventually opted for deep fielding in an effort to deal with the batting especially to ensure no more ducks were made, but Mosweu managed to squeeze the balls.
Legabile made a run out wicket and as Northern Deserts celebrated, Mosweu upped her game to ensure they continued making as much runs as possible. As the game progressed, Mosweu received applause from her teammates and supporters after she passed 50 runs.
Eventually, Central Deltas made 151 runs and six wickets with Mosweu contributing nearly 50 per cent, a feast that left national team coach Innocent Chandu mesmerised showering her with praises. ENDS
