28 Nov 2017
Thuso Rehabilitation Centre has been commended for assisting government in attaining its mandate of restoring dignity to underprivileged members of the community.
Speaking at a handing over ceremony of a house to Mr Lempaletse Molatlhegi, who has a hearing impairment recently, Maun East Member of Parliament for Maun East, Mr Konstantinos Markus appreciated Thuso Rehabilitation Centre for upholding the President’s Housing Appeal initiative.
He noted that Thuso Rehabilitation Centre managed to achieve such a great deed although it was faced with financial challenges as Non-Governmental Organisations lost donors due to Botswana’s middle income status.
Mr Markus also appreciated the centre since it had empowered Mr Molatlhegi who trained as a leather works teacher and had been with the institution since 2001.
He therefore encouraged that all members of the community should look out for other deserving members of their community.
Thuso Rehabilitation Centre is a training institution for people living with disability in Maun.
In his welcome remarks, the North West District Council chairperson, Mr Duncan Enga appreciated Thuso Rehabilitation Centre for assisting the council in attaining its mandate of restoring dignity for underprivileged members of the community.
Mr Enga noted that the North West District Council has an obligation of constructing about 51 houses for needy persons annually.
He therefore appreciated the centre as a non-profit making organisation for assisting the council as well as responding to the President’s Housing Appeal.
Mr Enga also noted that providing shelter to those challenged was in line with the Millennium Development Goals that emphasised restoration of dignity and protecting people from illnesses adding that shelter promoted good health to an individual.
Further, he encouraged other corporate organisations to play a role in assisting underprivileged people although there was no binding corporate social responsibility legislation in place.
Mr Molatlhegi appreciated Thuso Rehabilitation Centre for their good gesture.
The house was built with assistance from the Ministry of Health and Wellness. BOPA
