The Ombudsman, Mr Augustine Makgonatsotlhe says if the public can make full use of his office, issues of poor service delivery can be addressed.
Speaking during a Kgotla meeting in D’kar on Thursday, Mr Makgonatsotlhe told residents that most impediments of service delivery were constituents of maladministration.
Mr Makgonatsotlhe implored the public to fully utilise his office, which is mandated to investigate maladministration in government and parastatals institutions for them to access better service delivery.
He advised the addressees that one should have exhausted internal channels of raising a complaint before lodging a maladministration complaint to his office.
After their investigation, he said they make recommendation to relevant authorities on how to redress the issues.
He said laziness, undue delay and negligence are among many acts that constitutes maladministration.
He stated that good governance, as well as peace and tranquility are companions of better service delivery.
Currently, he said their offices are located in Gaborone, Francistown and Maun and the process of establishing another office in Tsabong is underway.
He told the residents that they will do their best to visit their clients in their respective regions in an effort to bring their services to them.
Responding to one resident, Mr Aaron Johannes who pleaded with the Ombudsman to establish an office in Ghanzi and suggested that the use of caravan could be convenient, Mr Makgonatsotlhe acknowledged that it is a possible option.Nonetheless, he said other associated costs that come with establishing of an office should be also be considered in addition to erecting a caravan.
He said they will continue exploring other means of bringing their services to the potential clients, citing among others the moving caravans as one of the options. BOPA
