Land programme makes significant progress

The Land Administration Procedures, Capacity and Systems (LAPCAS) programme has made significant progress since last Parliamentary update on November 17, 2016, says Assistant Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi.
Mr Moipisi informed Parliament that a total of 826 646 amounting to 100 percent of plots in villages across the country had been surveyed and assigned unique plot numbers.
He said ownership of a total of 717 838 plots had been confirmed to date.
He added that on legal amendments, Tribal Land Bill and Deeds Registry Amendment Bill were approved by Parliament in July 2017.
He said the two amendments would facilitate registration of Customary Land Grants as Deeds Registry, on Secure Land Titles, printing paper with security features and printing equipment had been procured while training of users has been done and stakeholders consulted.
He said that 100 percent of old records had been completed at Deeds Registry and records at Land Board have been sorted and more than one million individual plot files have been opened.
He said four of seven modules of the Land Information System were at testing stage and a linkage had been successfully tested with Omang, Election Management System and others adding that issuance of the new land titles was expected to commence early next year.
Member of Parliament for Ramotswa, Mr Samuel Rantuana had asked the minister about the status of LAPCAS and how far his Ministry was with the new certificates. BOPA
