27 Nov 2017
Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation, Dr Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi, will lead the Botswana Delegation to the 5th Summit of Heads of State and Government of Africa and the European Union (EU), which will be held in Abidjan, Côte d’ Ivoire from November 29-30.
A press release from the ministry says the central theme of the Summit is "Investment in Youth for Accelerated Inclusive growth and sustainable development."
The release says the focus on the youth will give impetus to both the African Unions’ continental efforts, and Botswana‘s own national priorities, to address unemployment amongst the youth and empower them with relevant skills so as to harness and accelerate socio-economic development on the continent.
The summit, it says will also examine ways of further advancing political and economic cooperation between Africa and Europe.
From Côte d’ Ivoire, Minister Venson-Moitoi will proceed to Brussels, Belgium to attend the 106th Session of the Council of Ministers of the African Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP), which will be held from December 4-7.
The ACP ministerial meeting will discuss budgetary issues, as well as the Group’s relations with the EU post 2020 when the Cotonou Agreement expires.
Minister Venson-Moitoi is expected to return home on December 8. ENDS
