VP praises Khama for Zimbabwe role

27 Nov 2017

Vice President, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi has praised President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama for his unrelenting voice against the suffering of Zimbabwean people under the previous regime of President Robert Mugabe.

Speaking at the official opening of Gcwihaba project on Saturday (November 25), the Vice President said the President had made Batswana proud by sticking to a principle which is entrenched in Botswana culture of never yielding to the abuse of power.

“You made Botswana proud for in every heart of every Zimbabwean, the names of Botswana and Khama were echoing,” said Mr Masisi.

“The Zimbabweans and the Zimbabwean experience personified who you are and that is why we so much value and respect you,” said Mr Masisi, who further thanked President Khama for never abusing power during his term.

He said as cabinet they appreciated working with President Khama as denoted by a piece of art they had just donated to him.

“It is our plea that you remember the good and bad times we had with you. It was blissful and that is the reason why we were stuck together as a team. We enjoyed working with you and we strongly suspect that the feeling is mutual,” said Mr Masisi.

“We have served you with diligence, loyalty, and dedication and you have served us well and this resulted in both of us serving the Republic of Botswana well,” observed Mr Maisi.

However, President Khama, who had just returned from the inauguration of President Emmerson Mnangagwa in Zimbawe, said it was an emotional time as Zimbabweans showed appreciation for the support and stand the country had taken against their problems and suffering for so many years.

“The amount of joy and excitement was humbling. You needed to be there to see how much the Zimbabweans had taken the event of yesterday,” said President Khama.

He further wished Zimbabwe all the best going forward. ENDS
