Ministry unveils plans to assist Kgalagadi North with water

The Ministry of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services has short and long term plans to assist residents of Kgalagadi North constituency with potable water.
Answering a question in Parliament, Assistant Minister Mr Itumeleng Moipisi said the short term plans would see the ministry equipping boreholes 10 924 and 10 925 to augment supply to Monong, Hunhukwe and Ncang villages.
He noted that the project was completed in September 2017 at a cost of P10 million.
“Another short term plan would be refurbishment, upgrading and optimization of Ngwatle treatment plant to address water shortages at Ngwatle and Zutshwa villages. The project is planned to start in December 2017 and expected to be completed in May 2018 at a cost of P4.8 million,” he said.
With regards to the long term plan, Mr Moipisi said that during NDP 11, the ministry would implement the Ncojane wellfield; Kgalagadi north water supply project which supply a demand of Matsheng villages (Hukuntsi, Lokgwabe, Lehututu and Tshane, Ncang, Monong, Maake, Ukhwi, Ngwatle, Zutshwa and Hunhukwe).
“The project is currently at a tender stage and is expected to be completed by December 2019 and P120 million has been budgeted for this project,” he said.
Member of Parliament for Gaborone North, Mr Haskins Nkaigwa had asked the minister what plans were in place to assist residents of Kgalagadi North constituency with potable water, how much was budgeted for this process and which villages in the constituency would be covered and when such a project would be undertaken.
