19 Nov 2017
Wellness coordinator at Department of Civil and National Registration Ms Onneile Maseko says wellness and productivity are inseparable.
Speaking at the wellness day in Serowe recently Ms Maseko said that keeping employees healthy on a daily basis was high priority in government, adding that it was encouraging to see wellness committees together with management promoting health and well-being.
She said that being in good health would give them power to work more as well as think more and to be in good mood, noting that being healthy keeps minds active and happy, thus leaving no time for negative thoughts.
She further said being productive could improve one’s mood and once they prove to be mentally strong in the gym they could do the same in the office, saying non- communicable diseases continue to take lives of people in the country in the workplace.
Ms Maseko said diseases such as depression, hypertension, cancer amongst others could lead to serious decline in the overall health of employees in the workplace and as a result contribute to an increase in the health- related expenses for employers and employees, leading to low productivity or work days missed.
Ms Maseko said that it was therefore important that programmes and activities of wellness were developed and implemented at all levels without failure.
Another speaker Ms Phodiso Modungwa said wellness played critical role in productivity in workplace thus helping in moulding a healthy body and mind improved performance.ENDS
