Tsogwane off to Malta
19 Nov 2017
Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Slumber Tsogwane will lead a Botswana delegation to the 2017 Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF) in Valetta, Malta.
The meeting will start tomorrow and end on Friday.
A press release from the ministry says the High Level CLGF, which meets every two years, allows local government leadership across the Commonwealth to discuss various policy issues and developments.
It further says the conference, being held under the theme; Fit for the Future: Resources and Capacity for Effective Local Government, will reflect on various issues including local government as a full partner in developing sustainable communities, fiscal decentralisation, local revenue generation and creating an enabling environment for local government and its partners to deliver sustainable development for all.
The release further says the CLGF will also reflect on priorities for localising finance to enable local government to address the global imperative of climate change in local communities as well as innovations in financing to support sustainable development.
The Botswana delegation was invited by CLGF chairperson, Reverend Mpho Moruakgomo. ENDS
