19 Nov 2017
Multitudes of Bakgatla tribesmen and women thronged Mochudi main kgotla on Friday to endorse Kgosi Bana Sekai as the tribe’s deputy paramount chief.
When addressing Bakgatla on the matter, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Slumber Tsogwane said government would give Kgosi Sekai a new contract to resume his work as Bakgatla deputy paramount chief.
He said the appointment of Kgosi Sekai was delayed by the legal issues that he was facing, but once he was cleared by the courts government would open consultations regarding the Bakgatla chieftainship.
Mr Tsogwane said it was on this premise that he came to resolve the matter with Bakgatla, adding that on July 21, Kgosi Sekai submitted a request for extension of his contract following his clearance by the courts.
He said the purpose of the meeting was to consult with Morafe on the request made by Kgosi Sekai.
Alternatively, thye minister said the meeting could nominate a name of the person that they wish to be deputy chief.
He reminded them of the provisions of Section 10 of Bogosi Act CAP 41:01, which defines the process of appointing the nominated person as Mothusa Kgosi, which should be endorsed by the tribe in a kgotla meeting.
Minister Tsogwane said bogosi was a sensitive institution that must be handled with due care and diligence so that the peace and tranquillity that our nation is known for is maintained and sustained for future generations and socio-economic development.
He also explained that the tribe could make an application to the Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration for Kgosi Sekai to be allowed to represent the tribe at Ntlo ya Dikgosi.
Bakgatla echoed with one voice in agreement that Kgosi Sekai should be given a new contract that would make him the caretaker of Bakgatla ba ga Kgafela as it has been the wish of Kgosi Kgafela II.
Kgosi Montshiwa Mabodisa said he was happy that the will of his kgosi kgolo had been done and thanked the minister for bringing the good news.
He said Kgosi Kgafela II he made it clear that he had appointed Kgosi Sekai to be the deputy paramount chief.
Kgosi Mabodisa also said even when Kgosi Malope II and his team visited him in South Africa he echoed the same statement and further said he would like him to represent Bakgatla at Ntlo ya Dikgosi.
Messrs Patla Tsae and Segale Molefe expressed happiness that after suffering for a long time, they have now been answered.
They thanked government for responding accordingly to their pleas as that would bring stability in their tribe and their matters would be addressed with ease.
In his vote of thanks, Member of Parliament for Mochudi West, Mr Gilbert Mangole applauded government for listening to the pleas of Bakgatla as that would unite morafe and the nation at large.
He thanked Minister Tsogwane for his swiftness in attending to bogosi issues as that proved that he understood good working relations.
Mr Mangole also thanked Kgosi Sekai for his patience over the years and not giving up on morafe wa Bakgatla, who stood by him throughout.
He further thanked Mophato wa Mangana for standing up for what they believed in and taking responsibility for the good cause. ENDS
