Assistant Minister of Basic Education, Mr Moiseraele Goya says Motsumi Junior Secondary School has been allocated P1 106 405 for feeding, Ditsweletse Junior Secondary School received P1 193 240, while Makgadikadi and Nanogang junior secondary schools received P1 133 730 and P1 920 400 respectively.

Responding to a question from Boteti East MP, Mr Goya said Motsumi, Ditsweletse and Makgadikgadi received P177 210, P168 957 and P158 978 for stationary respectively.

The schools, all in Boteti East constituency, were also allocated P1 101 508, P1 150 094 and P986 115 for service charges respectively. Motsumi received P39 585 for domestic use while Ditsweletse and Makgadikgadi were allocated P42 680 and P37 310 respectively.

Motsumi has been allocated P8 397 for staff uniform, Ditsweletse P8 471 and Makgadikgadi has been allocated P8 283.

Mr Goya said Motsumi has been allocated P3 755 for minor works, P4 151 for Ditsweletse, while Mkgadikgadi received P3 755.

He also said P4141 has been given to Makgadikgadi for maintenance of buildings, while Motsumi has been allocated P4 407 and Ditsweletse P4 578.

As for practical subjects, P92 564 has been allocated to Makgadikgadi, P96 254 to Motsumi and P98 632 to Ditsweletse.

Nanogang Junior School in Gaborone has been allocated P1 352 305 for feeding, P219 252 for stationery, P1 057 031 for service charges, P44 385 for domestic, P9 000 for protective clothing, P4 317 for minor works, P127 761 for maintenance and P106 172 for practical subjects.

Mr Goya said the funds are distributed based on a formula which considers the number of learners and whether the school has boarding facilities.

He said the money given to Boteti East constituency junior schools for practical subjects was not enough for students to cover their subjects before final examinations.

The assistant minister said his ministry has not been able to meet all the requests for funding by schools, but remain committed to continue to increase the school budgets as and when funds become available.

MP Mr Setlhomo Lelatisitswe had asked the assistant minister to state actual funds disbursed to schools in Boteti East constituency and Nanogang covering feeding, stationery, service charges, domestic, staff uniform, minor works, maintenance and practical subjects.

He further had also asked the assistant minster to state the percentage allocated to each vote against what the school had requested as an annual or quarterly demand.

Mr Lelatisitswe asked if it was true that students in his constituency junior schools are not doing practical subjects because funds are never enough to even buy the needed items and when the schools will be given enough funds to carry them through the year. BOPA
