Serowe to host International Men s Day

Serowe will host International Men’s Day (IMD) on November 17 to celebrate men’s positive contributions to society, community and family.
Briefing Serowe Administrative Authority District Development Committee recently, men sector coordinator, Mr Nonofo Leteane said the government officially endorsed and adopted the commemoration of International Men’s Day in 2013.
He said the day was an annual international event celebrated on 19 November, and that it was first observed by Trinidad and Tobago in 1999. The day, he said, had since been commemorated by over 70 countries annually.
He said the day was an occasion to highlight discrimination against men and boys and to promote positive male role models. “Not just movie stars and sportsmen, but everyday, working class men living decent and honest lives.
The day will be celebrated under the theme: Celebrating men and boys in all their diversity.
It is in recognition that approximately 3.6 billion of the 7.5 billion souls globally are males.
The day has previously been celebrated in Gaborone, Selebi Phikwe and in Manyana last year. BOPA
