14 Nov 2017

Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Frans Van Der Westhuizen says Mosu Primary School RADS hostel has 17 staff members and no vacant posts.

Responding to a question in Parliament, Mr Van Der Westhuizen said  that there are eight cooks (two males and six females), matron and eight caretakers (four males and four females).

He said the hostel capacity was 240 and hostel enrollment was currently 160 (79 girls and 81 boys).

He admitted that the school building required maintenance while some furniture needed to be repaired or replaced.

He said last year new furniture was procured for Mosu RADS hostels, but it was inadequate, adding that additional furniture would be procured when funds are available.

He added that there were maintenance plans for the buildings and ‘unfortunately it would be limited in scope due to inadequacy of funds and since there are inadequate funds for cyclic maintenance, the district is only able to do spot maintenance’.

He said settlements sometimes experiences water shortage, which negatively affects the primary school hostels and as a result the District Council has provided the school with water tanks, which are filled with water by either Water Utilities Corporation or the district council in cases of water scarcity.

MP for Boteti East, Mr Setlhomo Lelatisitswe had asked the minister to update Parliament on the status of Mosu Primary School hostel, particularly its staffing, student population, status of buildings, furniture, maintenance plans and water situation. BOPA
