Church prays for Khama
13 Nov 2017
Members of the Roman Catholic Church’s International Catholic Charismatic Renewal (ICCR) on Friday prayed for President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama and the nation’s various needs.
President Khama joined senior government officials who attended the short prayer sessions held at Office of the President’s (OP) gardens to give thanks to God for sustaining the country.
In his welcome remarks, government spokesperson and deputy permanent secretary - Government Communication and Information System, Dr Jeff Ramsay, said OP had a special role of ensuring spiritual and social upliftment of the people of Botswana.
For that reason, Dr Ramsay said it was befitting for the ICCR members to have found it necessary to hold a prayer session at OP to pray for the country’s various needs ‘as we go into the holiday season.’
In his intercessory prayer, ICCRS Intercessory Training Course director and ICCRS Sub-committee for Asia Oceania chairperson, Mr Cyril John, thanked God for “the wisdom and grace that He granted President Khama to rule the country in the path of righteousness.”
He also thanked God for what he described as good governance and rule of law that had prevailed in Botswana over the years and asked for peace to continue being in the country.
The ICCR members that organised the prayer represented the 10 African countries that attended the Intercession Training Course at Ave Maria Centre in Gaborone.
Through this intercessory prayer, ICCR members also thanked God for the leadership that had existed in Botswana to date and asked God to continue guiding all those holding leadership positions in the country.
Proposing vote of thanks, National Strategy Office deputy director general, Dr Kolaatamo Malefho, thanked President Khama for attending the prayer session and the ICCR members for having found it fit to pray for the country.
Roman Catholic Church’s Intercession Training Courses trains intercessors and potential intercessors in serving the church to promote the ministry of prophetic intercession to deepen intercession in the church worldwide, while ICCR is a spiritual movement within the Catholic Church that incorporates aspects of both Catholic and charismatic practice and places an emphasis on having a personal relationship with Jesus and expressing the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Among senior government officials that attended the prayer session was Permanent Secretary to the President, Mr Carter Morupisi and Senior Private Secretary to the President, Brigadier George Tlhalerwa. BOPA
