Molefe applauds Assemblies of God

Mahalapye Assemblies of God church has been commended for being committed and practicing the spirit of self-reliance and volunteerism.
This was said by Mahalapye West MP, Mr Joseph Molefe during the official opening of the Assemblies of God church in Mahalapye on November 4.
He said that Batswana had over the years been committed to positively contribute to the country’s development and empower themselves.
He explained that the Mahalapye Assemblies of God in Botswana started its evangelism campaigns at Lobatse and Gaborone in 1963 and has over the years spread throughout the whole country.
Mr Molefe said in 2007, the church decided to build a bigger structure in Mahalapye, adding that this was a step of faith because the church did not have the where withal to commence building, as it had few members mostly the elderly and unemployed.
He said despite all these circumstances, they were determined to build a bigger church .
Mr Molefhe noted that because of the faithfulness, dedication and commitment of their members, a magnificent sanctuary dedicated to the worship of God stood before them.
Further, he said over the years by God’s grace the church had initiated and established amongst others Mowana, Machaneng, Bonwapitse, Kodibeleng, Shoshong and Dibete Assembly of God churches.
He said Mahalapye Assembly of God was also committed to the greater commission of making disciplines of nation just like in the Bible.
For his part, church representative Mr Gasone Lesonya said it took 12 years for them to build the church under the leadership of Pastor Thulanyo Khumo.
Mr Lesonya explained that the initial planning stage of the building started in 2001 and has over the years voluntarily raised funds to build their church.
He said they started with only P458, but today they had managed to build a bigger church to the tune of P350 000, something which church members displayed faithfulness, dedication and commitment to.
He said the spirit of self-reliance was prevailing at all times since most members were not working. He thanked all who contributed.
However, he noted that because the church was big it needed chairs, air conditioners, mission house and new musical instruments. ENDS
