The foundation of success, accountability, hard work and shared responsibility in any society is a function of sound guiding policies and institutional arrangements, says Minister for Presidential affairs, Governance and Public Administration Mr Eric Molale.

Responding to a question from Kgosi Thabo Masunga at Ntlo Ya Dikgosi on Tuesday, Mr Molale said that the constitution provides the necessary guidance to govern and mobilise the nation to do well for themselves, one another and for the country.

The said minister said at the national level, the development of a National Vision and National Development Plans provides a platform for citizens to share in the shaping of development of the country and to represent their dreams and aspirations.

He said that the annual budgeting and approvals through Parliament provides a platform for the Executive to account for the funds allocated for the programmes.

He told the House that a number of agencies had been instituted to provide oversight, safeguard public interest and ensure that good governance prevails, adding that this includes the Ombudsman, DCEC and PEEPA.

Minister Molale said the Botswana National Productivity Centre was specifically set up to mobilise the nation into creation of a productive, accountable and adoption of a responsive mindset.

It was also to ensure accountability for quality of services and products while the Botswana Bureau of standards provides assurance to the public that traders and industry exercise responsibility in serving them, he added.

“Government is leading a process which inculcates shared responsibility for national development results through the process of Thematic Working Groups (TWG) and membership to these comprises government, private sector, Non-Governmental Organisations and opinion leaders,” he said.

Mr Molale said Vision 2036 summons the nation to adopt a fundamental renewal of mindset to achieve prosperity for all. Kgosi Masunga had asked the minister to explain what government was doing to enhance the national mind set change towards success, accountability, hard work and shared responsibility. BOPA
