Nare wants departure from Go tla siama tag line

01 Nov 2017

Miscellaneous coach, Daniel Nare says Batswana athletes and teams should depart from the consolatory message of ‘Go tla siama’ (it shall be well) if they want to be competitive and achieve greater goals.

Speaking at the constituency sports  tournament awards ceremony at Serowe College of Education where he was roped in as a motivational speaker, Nare, who is dubbed Chico Dance in the footballing fraternity, warned athletes and teams against “partaking in sport on a voluntary scale as if rendering favours to some people.”

He said the “go tla siama” line has become a national sob that cultivates the spirit of no competition amongst local athletes.

Nare also observed that from time immemorial Batswana athletes had been pampered with messages of “go tla siama” consolation that it has now become monotony.

Renowned for his post-match outbursts when he feels hard done by match officials and honesty in analysing his team performance regardless of the result, Nare said Batswana athletes did not take themselves seriously.

The Miscellaneous gaffer, who spent the better part of his life in Lobatse only to be cajoled by businessman Bakang Seretse to steer the Miscellaneous ship, emphasised the need to change attitude towards sports, observing that some athletes engaged in sports to merely pass time.

Nare said the constituency sport tournament was integral to sport and cited some gems such as Letlhogonolo Mosala whom he personally signed at Extension Gunners and Segolame Boy who was unearthed by Miscellaneous in the competitions as a true testament of the value of the government sponsored competitions.

Nare implored constituency sport tournament coaches to affiliate to various associations  so they could fulfill their roles as custodians of sport education.

“If you were a star player during your days it does not therefore translate that you will be a good coach,” advised Nare, who added that coaches needed to understand the intricacies of the profession.

He told athletes, especially footballers who partook in the weekend finals, that despite them being outside Botswana Football Association structures they too were athletes for they compete and were lucky to have government backing since their formative years in 2008.

Nare warned that they as coaches wanted to see anti-doping tests carried even at constituency sports tournament in the near future since the tournament was a launching pad for some athletes into mainstream sports. BOPA
