Ministry fixes late allowance payment challenge
31 Oct 2017
The Assistant Minister Of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso has informed Ntlo ya Dikgosi that allowances for headmen of arbitration were sometimes paid late because they were processed late.
Answering a question at Ntlo ya Dikgosi, Ms Tshireletso said nonetheless, the ministry had made concerted efforts to address the situation by adopting and piloting a payroll system called Smart Pay.
The move, she said, would ensure the timely payment of allowances for headmen of arbitration.
Kgosi Rapelang Khuwe of Tutume region had asked the minister if she was aware that allowances for headmen of arbitration were paid late, and if so, how she intended to address the situation.
Meanwhile, Ms Tshireletso also informed dikgosi that rentals for council staff were determined by their respective councils while the Department of Tribal Administration rentals were set up by the Department of Housing, hence the variation.
Kgosi Botiki Motshegare of Barolong region had wanted the minister to explain why council employees paid less house rentals as compared to their counterparts in the Department of Tribal Administration yet they were in the same ministry. BOPA
