Health ministry to engage indigenous knowledge in future - health minister
31 Oct 2017
Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele says the ministry has not yet integrated indigenous knowledge into the health system.
Answering the question at Ntlo ya Dikgosi on Monday, Mr Makgalemele said while acknowledging the fact that indigenous knowledge was being used to heal snake bites, it would be important to have a common understanding of the mechanism of action and possible adverse effects of such medicinal intervention to allow integration of snake bite management through indigenous knowledge into the health system.
However, he said the ministry would engage indigenous practitioners in future.
Kgosi Boiditswe of Serowe region had asked the minister if the ministry would not consider engaging Batswana with indigenous knowledge on healing snake bites so as to develop and enhance such knowledge. BOPA
