Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Eric Molale has applauded Shift B Debswana employees in Jwaneng for building a house for Ms Mmapula Kgothang in Mabule.

Speaking at the hand over ceremony on October 28, Minister Molale said that by so doing they showed that they were compassionate and not only focused on mining diamonds, adding that they were aware that they had a social responsibility.

He also applauded Debswana for its efforts in changing the lives of the community around it.

Mr Molale said what they had done would not only benefit the beneficiary as it had also brought developments to the village.

He advised Mabule residents to take advantage of poverty eradication programme to boost the status of their village and district.

He also pleaded with companies to support the community, indicating that a toilet paper project being undertaken by locals in the village needed their support and encouragement.

Briefing residents about the house project, one of the Shift B employees, Mr Tshepo Kgomokhumo said that after learning about an incident that happened to the family years ago, through Botswana television, they decided to raise funds and dig deep into their pockets to better the lives of a mother and her children.

“We realised that the way the family was living without proper shelter was not healthy, hence the need for us to provide a house.

Shelter gives dignity,” he said, indicating that as a nation ‘we need to love one another’.

He also thanked the Jwaneng Cycling Club for their gesture in making their dream come true.

Mr Kgomokhumo said the project started in 2015, but they worked tirelessly to achieve it.

He also thanked Mabule residents and kgosi for their cooperation in making the project a success.

Appreciating the donation, the beneficiary, Ms Mmapula Kgothang thanked Shift B employees for their gesture, saying having a roof over her head would enable her to take good care of her children.

He expressed hope that the children would attend school well.

Kgosi Morota Tiro also thanked the Shift B employees, saying they would remain blessed.

He added that there was still a need to assist in the village as many people were underprivileged. ENDS
