Camels missing

26 Oct 2017

The public is requested to assist with information related to the 100 camels reported missing after escaping from Phuduhudu Artificial Insemination Camp District to nearby areas in the Kgalagadi District.

Chief public relations officer for the Department of Wildlife, Ms Alice Mmolawa said in the event of camel sighting outside the camp reports can be made to the wildlife office in Kang at telephone number 6517036 or any wildlife office to enable capturing.

The public may also call mobile number 74200039.

She said the department noticed that the camels escaped from the camp this month when they started making plans for their relocation.

The camels have been kept at the facility for a number of years as they were part of a pilot project to encourage trusts and communities to use them for tourism and other purposes.

The camels are said not to be dangerous as they are domesticated animals. ENDS
