Prisons gives back to community

24 Oct 2017

Botswana Prisons Services North Division has renovated Tshimologo Stimulus Centre in Francistown.

The centre, which helps children with disabilities under the age of 12, has been operating since 1984.

Handing over the project to the school management, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Prisons (SACP) Sekano Sekano explained that they were inspired by President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama’s 4Ds to give back to the needy.

The North Division repainted the school, refurbished the ablution facilities and replaced the floor tiles; an exercise that he said cost P18 100, which they donated from their own pockets.

Mr Sekano explained that they saw it fit as the division to help the school present a colourful environment that could bring happiness to children.

He said as the North Division they wanted to make President Khama’s D on dignity, a reality for the centre by restoring the school’s dignity through refurbishing its facilities.

For his part, Francistown deputy mayor, Mr Godisang Radisigo thanked Botswana Prisons North Division for having taken their time and money to give back to such schools as Tshimologo.

He noted that such schools needed the involvement of many in the community as their students are faced with many challenges.

Mr Radisigo described as a noble gesture the decision by Botswana Prisons to provide and improve the environment for children enrolled at the centre.

The deputy mayor also noted that the donation to the school would help inspire some people to volunteer to help others as well.

Tshimologo Stimulus Centre school manager, Mr Onkutlule Ramolelekane thanked the Botswana Prisons Services North Division for their generosity, noting that even though the centre was being assisted by the Ministry of Health and Wellness, that was not enough.

He thus observed that with Botswana Prisons Service having helped them, their plight would change. ENDS
