Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Eric Molale says voluntary work is important in nation building and national development.

Speaking during Office of the President Community Service Day on October 20 at Batlang Day Care Centre, Mr Molale said voluntary work was a calling for every citizen to partake in to help build a caring society for one another, a feat which would impact on many lives especially the less fortunate members of the society.

Mr Molale pledged P5 000 towards the school’s graduation event this year. Food hampers were also donated and Office of the President staff assisted in refurbishing the school fence, net shade, playing equipment and offices, and planting trees.

The minister said though what was done may seem too little it would go a long way in reinvigorating the spirit of volunteerism and spirit of self-reliance.

School coordinator Ms Opi Motsumi said she hoped that with the interaction and visit by Office of the President staff, the school’s profile would be raised and the voluntary services they offered to residents of Mogoditshane, would as well be recognised.

“We hope that now people will start to recognise our voluntary work and start associating with us in assisting in services we offer to the HIV affected and vulnerable kids of our society,” she said.

She sad the assistance from Office of the President would go a long way to attract people to start assisting the school so that the school accommodate and care for more vulnerable kids with pre-school education.

According to Ms Motsumi the pre-school was an initiative of Batlang Support Group, a group of HIV infected or affected individuals, with intent to help vulnerable kids with education, life skills and feeding programme.

She said since 2003 to date over 1000 kids had passed through the school programme and rely on donation for its P4 500 monthly feeding needs and daily operation of the school activities. ENDS
