Motumise appointed Judge of High Court
19 Oct 2017
The secretary of the Judicial Service Commission, who is also the Registrar and Master of the High Court has confirmed that the President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama has appointed Mr Omphemetse Motumise as judge of the High Court.
Mr Michael Motlhabi confirmed this during an interview with BOPA yesterday, adding that Mr Motumise’s appointment was made on October 17, 2017 and has since accepted the offer.
He noted that arrangements were being made for Mr Motumise to take an oath but he will resume his duties effective January next year.
Mr Motlhabi noted that the decision for the new judge to take up his duties next year was to allow him to wrap up some of his assignments and prepare himself to assume office.
In the meantime, a press release from Law Society of Botswana (LSB) confirmed that Mr Motumise has been appointed to the Bench with effect from January 01, 2017.
It acknowledges that though it took some time for the appointment to be made after protracted court battles between the government and the LSB, it has finally been realised. BOPA
