Ministry launches public gym
15 Oct 2017
The Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development has launched a public gym in Molepolole.
The facility was launched Friday at Molepolole Sports Complex during the Kweneng District wellness day.
The public gym caters for everyone in the village and is strategically placed at the sports complex for security reasons.
Speaking at the launch, deputy permanent secretary in the ministry, Mr Kgopotso Ramoroka encouraged public officers to exercise, emphasising that they needed to care for their bodies as a healthy workforce was critical for productivity.
Mr Ramoroka also said no one needed to be forced to exercise because it had benefits for the workforce, adding that it was for this reason that government had set aside the second Friday of every month for wellness.
He noted that last year August, his ministry launched the wellness day and that the nation was encouraged to partake in the programme as well as other wellness activities.
He encouraged public officers to join gym facilities to challenge their physique. He said those who could not afford costly gym facilities were encouraged to make use of the newly launched facilities.
He said since Molepolole was a big village, local authorities should partner with private companies to put up another facility at another locality within the village in order to cater for those who were far from the stadium.
Engaging in wellness activities, he said, helped in reducing non-communicable diseases.
Kgosi Kgari III appreciated the gym and implored everyone to use the facility and to continue with what they started without fail for improved productivity in the workplace.
Public officers were also treated to a day full of wellness activities such as exercise activities, athletics and tug of war. ENDS
