Boxing bonanza this week
08 Oct 2017
Africa top boxers are expected to descend on the capital city to battle it out for the two vacant World Boxing Association Pan African tittles, in a boxing extravaganza organised by FOX Sports at the Grand Palm Hotel on October 11.
One of the interesting bout of the night will pit South African featherweight boxing champion Rofhiwa “War Child” Maemu, against Namibian Immanuel Andeleki, who had proved overtime that he is not a push over, and he has 12 wins and four draws with eight losses in his 24-fight career.
But he should be careful of War Child, who is also the African Boxing Union Featherweight Champion, given that on his day he is capable of controlling the pace of the fight as well as attacking his opponent from all angles.
It remains to be seen as to who between the two will be crowned the WBA Pan African lightweight champion after 12 rounds of boxing.
In another bout, two South African boxers Ayanda Nkosi, and Jeffery Magagane opted to make Gaborone their battle ground, as they will also be fighting for the vacant WBA Pan African lightweight title.
On paper Magagane who won eight fights and lost one is the favourite to win the bout, compared to Nkosi who has won six and lost one fight in his career. However the Grand Palm boxing ring will determine who the winner is.
FOX sports, public relations officer Khan said they had prepared well for the extravaganza and they were motivated by the support they received in Botswana recently, adding they will be organising yet another competition to be staged in Botswana again.
‘Recently, the first of many Africa Boxing tournaments which are hosted and promoted by Fox Sports proved to be a rousing success.
Hence another exciting eight-fight tournament has been hastily arranged by the promoters at the same venue,” he said.
Khan said there will be undercard which will pit South Africans against Batswana, adding in the international featherweight which would go for four rounds . Tshephang Babui of Botswana will face South African Nyiko Ndukula
In the lightweight Steven Bagwasi will face his country man Kagiso Tebogo while in the international super-featherweight Kutlwano Ogaketse of Botswana is poised to give Sifiso Hlongwane of South Africa some boxing lessons
A fierce battle is expected in the international welterweight when experienced Gomotsang Gaasite faces Nkensahosi “Junior” Makondo, while in the international catch weight, Botswana’s Tefo Letshikgwane will face South African Rofhiwa Nemushungwa. ENDS
