Low Boipuso turnout worries Kgosi

02 Oct 2017

Kgosi Botshelo Lekgothu of Ghanzi says the poor turnout of the community at the main Kgotla during the Independence Day celebrations is a disturbing trend.

Kgosi Lekgothu said he would continue condemning the trend because it denied the community the important message from President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama.

He said it was disgraceful that only a few people attended the celebrations meant to reflect on the achievements of the nation.

Kgosi Lekgothu said it was time the celebrations were conducted at the main kgotla only rather than at the various wards, saying  it would encourage people to attend the main kgotla event.

He criticised the community, particularly the youth, saying they only have time to consume alcohol as opposed to attending kgotla events which were fruitful.

Before conveying the President’s Independence Day message, Ghanzi assistant district commissioner, Mr William Keareng appealed to parents to encourage children to attend kgotla events as they could help mould them into responsible leaders of tomorrow.

President Khama’s message emphasised unity and self-reliance and called on the nation to introspect and see how they could achieve more.

Upholding Botho was also one of the issues mentioned in the President’s speech. ENDS
