Kgatleng District councillors have been informed that the construction of education facilities for Segale primary school through the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) phase I 2016/17 was successfully completed within budget, time and specification.

Addressing a full council meeting in Mochudi on September 25, the council chairperson, Mr Mpho Morolong said the project had been handed over to the council for beneficial use and is under defects liability period.

Mr Morolong said ESP Phase II projects worth over P34 million had been approved for implementation for the financial year 2017/18, adding that these involved the construction of staff houses, pupil’s toilets and classrooms at Ramotlabaki, Leshibitse, Artesia and Seingwaeng primary schools.

The councillors also heard that the projects had been unbundled into 10 projects in order to engage as many construction companies as possible and at the same time create employment opportunities to achieve the primary objectives of ESP.

He said tenders for these projects had been awarded with some at mobilisation stage while others were at contract stage.

The meeting also heard that five out of six RADP houses for the financial year 2017/18 in Kgomodiatshaba had been completed with the last one expected to complete end of September.

The council chairperson further said the council had been allocated a total of 26 destitute houses to be constructed across the district this financial year, saying all were expected to be completed before end of December.

On issues of maintenance, Mr Morolong told councillors that there were three major maintenance works that were scheduled to be undertaken this financial year and these included, Dikwididi, Seingwaeng and Boiteko primary schools, saying tenders were at vetting stage.

Mr Morolong said maintenance of staff houses and other facilities were still a challenge due to financial constraints.

However, he said a tender for maintenance of seven staff houses had been awarded. ENDS
