Public officers advised to take transfers in stride

25 Sep 2017

Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Thato Kwerepe has advised public officers to find opportunities when transferred to new areas.

Addressing public officers in Lobatse on September 22, Mr Kwerepe said transfers presented opportunities for officers.

He said officers should desist from complaining but rather look for opportunities in areas they were placed.

With government now allowing officers to establish businesses outside work, Mr Kwerepe said it was only wise to search for opportunities and make a living.

He, however, cautioned that such businesses should not conflict or comprise their daily official duties.

The assistant minister advised officers to look into businesses which were not aligned to their job description as that would not compromise them.

The Directorate of Public Service Management assistant director, Mr Victor Manyanda shared some of the improved conditions of service such as the SACCOS scheme, and encouraged them to join the scheme and save money with accumulating interest.

Mr Manyanda said the scheme introduced a funeral scheme that allowed members to register their parents.

For their part, officers decried poor working conditions, lack of safety clothing as well as shortage of accommodation while others wanted clarity on progression and how the salary scale notches worked. ENDS
