Botswana Oil Chief Executive Officer, Mr Mokwena Morulane has appealed to Taung Junior Secondary School students to exercise their power of choice wisely.

The Botswana Oil executive made the remark during the school’s prize giving day recently, adding that each student had the ability to shape their future and all that depended on their power of choice.

Mr Morulane remained the students that they had power over their own minds and the choices that they made in their daily lives.

Therefore he encouraged them to work hard in their studies in order to make it in life, adding that most people came from humble beginnings and it was only through hard work that they managed to succeed.

“It comes through dedication and hard work,” added Mr Morulane.

Furthermore, he stated that research had shown that with support, children could be modelled in to high performing individuals.

The school head, Ms Faith Tshiamo said the school was working hard to improve its performance with the support of Parent Teachers Association (PTA).

She stated that the school was the first junior school to host a boot camp this year, which was part of their turnaround strategy.

“We have a dream of producing the best and quality results,” Ms Tshiamo said, and added that the school produced 42 per cent quality pass last year.

Nonetheless, she stated that most of the students had not yet realised the value of education, hence the did not fully apply themselves.

On other issues, the school head stated that their school had not benefited from the Adopt-a -School initiative, yet she remained hopeful.

Further, she said they were facing a severe shortage of classrooms and added that two of their classes were taught in science laboratories, which she described as risky.

She further regretted that their school did not have a Guidance and Counselling centre, hence she pleaded with companies to adopt Taung JSS. BOPA
