KDC inspires employees to perform better

13 Sep 2017

Kgatleng District Council held its 3rd annual excellence awards at Travel Lodge in Gaborone to inspire its employees to strive for excellence.

Speaking at the ceremony, First National Bank Botswana (FNBB) acting director, Ms Mabedi Morake-Maripe said in pursuance of excellence the council should uphold the power of positive reinforcement on its employees to encourage desired behaviour.

“The power of reinforcement is the power of setting goals and expectancy which motivates employees by setting challenging yet attainable goals to achieve higher levels of task performance than telling people to do their best.”

Ms Morake-Maripe said the country has the perception that “public sector is no competitor to the private sector.”

She said continuous improvement through customer feedback was crucial as the feedback could be used to develop strategies to improve those services.

She urged leaders and employees to work together to ensure that the gains made were not lost. She vowed that FNBB would next year be part of the event by sponsoring the employee of the year award.

Council chairperson, Mr Mpho Morolong said the excellence awards were an opportunity for the council to demonstrate its capacity to innovate and modernise service delivery.

He said the ceremony was not only a time to celebrate, but also to reflect on the council’s past performance.

Mr Morolong thanked Ms Morake-Maripe for sharing their business strategies with them, as they were now able to see how to adopt some in a bid to improve their services.

Council secretary, Mr Nelson Mogapi thanked all the recipients and other employees for being a good team and working together to assist their customers on a daily basis.

He said the awards were aimed at promoting team spirit, as they did not only focus on individual awards but also recognised team efforts in different departments to encourage employees to work together.

Mr Mogapi urged all recipients to maintain their high productivity levels and challenged non recipients to aspire to reach high performance. Ends
