10 Sep 2017
Kgalagadi District launched a population and development profile in Tsabong on Wednesday.
The profile, which is the third one to be launched countrywide, will, according to Ms Tebatso Chalashika, population and development coordination director inform developments to be carried out in the district.
She pointed out that it detailsamongst others population census and provided general information on the services provided within the district.
Further, she revealed that the profile is important in selling the district to potential investors as it covers a wide range of issues such as the geographic setting, socio-economic information and the district infrastructural development.
Ms Chalashika said the performance and limitations of government and non-government sectors in the district have been precisely outlined to give a tangible picture of the district.
The district is rich in flora and fauna boasting of variety of wild animals from the Kgalagadi Transfrontier park and sand dunes.
It is also home to the famous karakul sheep, which is revered for its wool and finest small stock found in the country, which has seen most of the farmers from across the country flogging into the district for their genes.
Ghanzi District commissioner Mr Loeto Porati said it was discouraging to see authorities from across the district absenting themselves from such a big project.
He pointed out that it was at such gatherings that decision makers got to meet and have an understanding of how certain decisions were made regarding projects to be undertaken.
The district commissioner said it was disheartening to see that not even a single councillor or the district commissioner had availed themselves although they were the ones who were supposed to be leading from the front. ENDS
