Service centre a welcome development
07 Sep 2017
The ongoing construction of a service centre in Mmathethe has been hailed as not only a welcome development but also a step in the right direction towards enhancing village infrastructure.
This was said by Molapowabojang/Mmathethe lawmaker, Dr Alfred Madigele during a kgotla meeting he addressed in the village on Monday.
The project, constructed courtesy of the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) according to Dr Madigele is one of the only two service centres currently undergoing construction countrywide.
The Minister of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology mentioned that a similar project is under construction in Sefhare.
“The service centre will house a number of government departments and will help bring services closer to the people of Mmathethe,” he said.
Dr Madigele also hastened to inform residents that a fully-fledged police station with 25 staff houses has been earmarked for the village under the current planning period.
He was hopeful the development would help fight soaring levels of crime particularly stock theft that has become a pain for people in the area.
Also, Dr Madigele told Mmathethe populace that the extension of Mmathethe clinic would only be done during the 2018/19 financial year.
The decision to extend the facility during the 2018/19 period according to the Area MP, does not in any way overlook the fact that Mmathethe clinic services a cluster of settlements in the periphery but due to budgetary constraints.
However Dr Madigele called on Mmathethe populace that envisaged developments are not as swift as government wished due to scarcity of funds. ENDS
