ESP project within schedule

Maunatlala community has commended   government for the construction of student hostels and teachers houses at Maunatlala Community Junior Secondary School.

The P40million  project undertaken through the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) entails boarding master and matron houses, three semi-detached staff houses, supplies warehouse and kitchen, guidance and counselling block, two classrooms, eight bay water borne toilets, a store room and boys and girls hostels.

The area councillor Ms Salome Lesole said in an interview that once the project is complete, it will address challenges that the school has been facing for a long time.

She said students from neighbouring Seolwane, Mosweu and Mokokwana villages were currently walking long distances to school every day hence the hostels would help accommodate students from these villages.

She said this was a welcome development that will not only cut the cost of transporting students to schoolbut will also uplift the phase of Maunatlala village.

She said the project would also create a conducive environment for learning and teaching and would reduce overcrowding in classes, adding “we are hoping for good results after completion of the project.”

Ms Lesole commended the Balolwane Building Services company for the good work since the commencement of the project

The project coordinator of Balolwane Building Services (pty) Ltd, Mr John Keorapetse said once the hostels were complete, they would accommodate a total of 144 students.

He said the project included water borne toilets, school initially used pit latrines.

He indicated that after completion of buildings, the company would be undertaking external works of paving rocky and bumpy internal roads within the school.

He revealed that the construction was within schedule despite facing challenges of slow response from specialising subcontractors.

The project is estimated to be constructed in a period of 18 months and is currently 85 per cent complete. It is expected to be handed over early December. ENDS
