Tonota police are investigating an accident in which two people were confirmed dead on arrival at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital on September 3 after the tractor they were travelling in rolled into the river.
Superintendent Kenanao Badumetse said the deceased were a 34-year-old man of Mathangwane and a woman of the same age of Mandunyane. He said information relayed to police indicated that the driver had six passengers who were riding on the tractor’s mud guards.
Supt Badumetse said the accident occurred around 12:30 am. It is suspected that the driver lost control and hit the river bank before the tractor rolled into a pool of water in the Shashe River.
He said the tractor was travelling on a gravel road between Semotswane and Shashe Bridge early Sunday morning. Supt Badumetse said five other passengers aged between 20-40 years were treated for minor injuries, and that police investigations were ongoing.
On a different note, Supt Badumetse said they were investigating a case of un-natural offence in which a 19-year-old man of Mandunyane had canal knowledge of a goat.
He said the owner of the goat reported that on September 3 near Shashe Dam, he saw a man having canal knowledge of a goat and on arrival at the scene, the man tried to flee but they managed to catch him with the help of a companion.
Supt Badumetse said when the owner and the companion went back to the scene, they found the goat lying on the ground and unable to move. He further said the man and the goat were in police custody while investigations continue. He noted that the offence carried a penalty of a prison term not exceeding seven years. Ends
