Ntsogotho wants council to reconsider site for new school

31 Aug 2017

Khwai/Mababe councillor, Mr Kebareeditse Ntsogotho has requested the Maun Administration Authority (MAA) to reconsider the location for the primary school donated to Khwai village.

Speaking at the ongoing MAA meeting, Mr Ntsogotho said the site chosen for the school by the North West district council was a floodplain area.

That, he said would lead to submerging infrastructure and in turn affect schooling process upon completion.

He indicated that it seemed his concerns had not been appreciated despite making numerous enquiries.

He further indicated that it was apparent that construction of the school was about to start, and thus appealed to MAA councillors to visit the chosen site to appreciate the concerns raised by Khwai residents.

Mr Ntsogotho also argued that Khwai residents had identified an appropriate area for the construction of the school.

On the other hand, senior assistant council secretary, Ms Mogomotsi Seemule said NWDC and MAA leadership had planned to visit Khwai village to appreciate the site and concerns from the community, but failed due to various reasons.

She however said the visit had since been rescheduled.

MAA chairperson, Mr Mmoedi Modiegi said they were not able to act upon the request to visit the village since the regional council headquarters had plans to do so.

On other issues, Mr Modiegi appreciated improvement in primary schools results in the region.

Nevertheless, he expressed concern over low performance in the junior secondary schools, which he said continued to decline. ENDS
