Bagwasi shines at boxing tourney

29 Aug 2017

Steven Bagwasi was crowned the best boxer after displaying good fighting technique during the Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) interclub tournament held at the Fairgrounds on August 26.

Bagwasi gave Kabo Seitshiro a boxing lesson in the 64kg category and beat him 3-0 in a one-sided bout.

Although Seitshiro tried to make a come back in the third round, it was too late as his punches were not effective. Their fight was also declared the best bout of the tournament

In the 60kg category, Prisons veteran boxer, Basha Motlhane was also given a lesson by Kutlwano Ogaaketse of DTCB.

The first punch of the first round was enough to send Motlhane tumbling out of the ring.

However, Motlhane said he was not happy that the referee stopped the bout despite telling him that he was ready to continue with the fight.

“I am still shocked. It was a good punch and I lost balance, but I was not expecting that it could stop the contest given that the referee had asked me after counting up to six, and I told him I am fine to continue,” he said.

Motlhane noted that he lost the fight the last time they met with Ogaaketse, and said he was seeking revenge but was disappointed because he was not given the opportunity.

Ogaaketse said he had prepared well for the competition, adding that he was happy that he managed to floor his opponent with a punch although he did not plan for it.

“A TKO is not something that is planned for, it just comes but I have power, and that was a strong punch and he was down,” he boasted.

Spectators were denied a mouth-watering encounter between Lentswe Zwinila of GVBC and Mmusi Tswiige of Prisons after Zwinila failed to show up.

Despite being declared the winner, Tswiige said he was not happy that Zwinila did not show up for the bout although he was at the weigh-in in the morning.

He said he had prepared for the match and was disappointed that he could not  fight on the day.

In other bouts, Mmoloki Thipe of Prisons won 3-0 against Johnson Kolobe of Mafika in the 60kg category. In the women’s category, Osadi Matong of GVBC won 2-1 against Irene Modikwa of Prisons. ENDS
