Kavimba tops Chobe

28 Aug 2017

Kavimba Primary School  on Saturday received  an excellence award for being top of all 12 Chobe District schools in the 2016 Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) with a 99 per cent pass from the previous year’s 61.1 per cent.

The school has always been performing well, but dropped to 61.7 per cent in 2015 from a 100 per cent pass in 2014.

Speaking at the excellence awards ceremony, school head, Ms Phenyo Oageng said an improvement would not have been possible if it was not for the relationship that existed between teachers, parents and village leadership.

“Our dikgosi have helped a lot because they are the ones that linked us with the parents through kgotla meetings. Whatever we needed and could not reach the parents, the chiefs would call a kgotla meeting and emphasise the issue, hence it brought a close relationship between the three parties,” said Ms Oageng.

In addition, Ms Oageng said the achievement was as a result of teachers commitment since they volunteered to work during vacations without being paid overtime.

Ms Oageng also expressed her gratitude towards parents who worked closely with them by supervising study groups during weekends and even coming to school to motivate learners.

Chobe regional operations director for education, Ms Lillian Matshameko said the region had been doing fairly well for the past years as it took position three in 2014 and four in 2015 at primary school level.

She also said the school’s pass rate calls for stakeholders to take advantage and put Chobe region back on track as it took a back slide last year by dropping to position six.

“This excellence award ceremony is very paramount as it instills in students and staff a spirit of competitiveness and assists the region to realise its goals and aspirations of achieving academic excellence Mowana Safari Resort and Spa General Manager Mr John Gray applauded all the recipients on their outstanding achievements and remarkable personal growth and urged them to work extra hard to excel in future and contribute to the development of the country.
