Women have great responsibility in society - PSP

Permanent Secretary to the President, Mr Carter Morupisi has said women have great responsibility in the growth and development of churches and society as a whole.

Officially opening the Revelation Blessed Peace Church Women’s Wing conference held under the theme; Holly Woman Soldiering Christian Armour in Selebi Phikwe on Saturday, Mr Morupisi implored women to use the conference to discuss issues of the church, plan ahead and evaluate if they had achieved the targets that had been put in place.

Mr Morupsi said women taking part in the conference should utilise the convention to discuss pertinent strategic issues that would assist the church to grow; be it administrative issues, governance issues or even social issues that needed the intervention of the church.

He also encouraged women to use Proverbs 31 as a yardstick and do everything in their power to ensure that they were true reflections of the epitome of Godly women as outlined in Proverbs 31.

Mr Morupisi explained that the church was an important organ in the structure of society, hence government continued to work closely with the institution not only for biblical guidance or blessings, but also for partnership in terms of how best to address social ills in society.

He said government had availed programmes to empower Batswana.

He urged members of the church to utilise the programmes to empower themselves, fight poverty, and contribute towards the development of the nation and the realisation of Vision 2036.

Meanwhile, Arch Bishop Tshwaranang Kepaletswe explained that the women’s conference was held annually to map a way forward.

He said women have been tasked with the responsibility to see the church move forward and implored them to work hard as a team for the church, the Christian faith and for God.

The church’s president of the women’s wing, Ms Tlamelo Modimowaitse called on churches to continue to recognise women and include them in leadership roles. She also commended President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama for signing the SADC Gender Protocol, noting that the move had paved way for women empowerment.

She also called on Batswana to follow and help grow the Christian faith.

For her part, councillor for Botshabelo South, Ms Sethuba Tlhabologo said women should acknowledge the role they played in the church and in society. She also said women played a pivotal role in building the nation. ENDS
