Super Spar opens 30th store

27 Aug 2017

Spar Botswana supermarket on Friday opened its 30th outlet in the country at Acacia Mall in Phakalane.

Acacia Super Spar assistant manager, Mr Monthusi Moses said the supermarket would relieve government from the high unemployment numbers as they have employed 50 new staff members at the shop.

He said they saw it fit to create jobs for the youth to mitigate the situation.

He added that government alone could not absorb all the unemployed people, and that the private sector should also play its part.

He also noted that the store has 30 other employees who were transferred from other Spar supermarkets, adding that citizens were given priority.

Mr Moses said the new store has a better shopping experience as customers served themselves in the kitchen and bakery.

“Instead of customers queuing and served by one employee, they just come and pick their choices and shoot straight to paying points,” said Mr Moses.

He promised Spar customers excellent customer service, noting that all employees were trained on customer service.

He added that in return for the support from customers, Spar was giving back by enrolling customers in a rewards programme.

“My rewards is a discount programme in which customers link the rewards card with their mobile numbers which in turn offer discount on some items,” he said, adding that “we give back to the community by helping the needy in the community.”

He also noted that they employ people living with disabilities as well as sponsoring activities such as netball.

Mr Moses said Spar Botswana stores identify needy people within the community and help them by building houses, providing groceries or adopting schools.

The store was officially opened by Kgosi Fanuel Mokalake of Modipane and has employed 80 people.Ends
