Lions Club donates sanitary pads

Lions Club of Phakalane recently donated two packets of sanitary pads to 17 students of Pudulogong Rehabilitation Centre.
Speaking at the handing over, the President of Lions Club Phakalane, Ms Amsha Naicker said the club was registered on July 3, 2017 by lions club international in Chicago ,USA.
She said they were aware that government had adopted a motion to provide sanitary pads to all girls attending school and this was “extremely commendable.”
She also said according to UNESCO, one in 10 girls in Sub-Sahara Africa missed school during their mesntrual periods while others lose 20 per cent of their education making them more likely to drop out of school.
She said donating to special children was a way of motivating and teaching them positively and appreciating the predicament which had befallen them.
Ms Naicker said in light of this vision Lion club of Phakalane had embarked on women empowerment targeting at this point women wellness and motivation.
She said their plans were to start with girls and women between ages of 10 to 80 years and they planned to have workshops and motivational talks to uplift their self-confidence, knowledge on their bodies and to develop and inculcate self belief.
She continued by saying that members of the Lions Club of Phakalane had decided to take up the challenge to help and bridge the gap where they could and added that each member of the club had pledged to sponsor sanitary pads each month to the Pudulogong Rehabilitation Centre.
Ms Naicker said this gesture would help in every way possible to bring comfort as well as confidence to the young ladies and said a healthy woman created a healthy family which in turn helped create a healthy community.
They also donated soccer balls to the students.ENDS
