Serowe Admin Authority sets trends
22 Aug 2017
Serowe Administration Authority (SAA) Sub-council chairperson, Mr Mpho Kooreme says the leadership has resolved to devise strategies that could set their authority apart.
He noted that a recent retreat for the council and leadership resolved to devise strategies that could set their authority apart.
Officially opening the sub council meeting, Mr Kooreme said the retreat resolved to establish a leadership forum, to document SAA inventory for income generation and to functionalise the investment committee.
“Let us all join hands to ensure that other sub-districts benchmark the best practices from our sub-council,” said Mr Kooreme. He commended fellow councillors for their participation at the retreat where they introspected and drew resolutions for the betterment of the sub-council.
However, he noted that the SAA faced challenges, citing the frequent vehicle breakdown that resulted in non-adherence to customer service standards in litter-picking, especially at residential areas.
He said litter-picking at open spaces was carried out daily. Mr Kooreme also said the frequent breakdown of their tractor loader backhoe had led to poor maintenance of the landfill.
He added that the sub-district continued to experience illegal dumping of refuse by members of the public. He implored councillors to urge their electorate to desist from the illegal practice as it was detrimental to the environment.
Mr Kooreme said his authority was improving poor drainage systems at primary schools, and that they were connecting them to the public sewer system and expanding them to correspond with the school enrolment.
On other issues, he said his sub-council was faced with challenges of resolving Village Development Committee (VDCs) problems of misappropriation of funds, lack of team spirit and misconduct by some members.
“Some of them have been expelled due to the above reasons despite orientations that were conducted after elections,” Mr Kooreme said. ENDS
